Bio

My practice represents the culmination of a lifetime of spiritual, intellectual, and even physical exploration and a passion for working with people. I have over 35 years of combined experience in the field of human potential. My first love was the theater. Acting was a transformational experience for me. Through the process of becoming another I could reach depths of human experience that were not accessible in my everyday reality. This sparked a thirst for more insight into the human condition which has taken me around the globe to such places as Hawaii to study with an indigenous Kahuna, France to study with the Roy Hart Theatre Company and then to live in a monastic hermitage, and Israel to rediscover my roots.

In early adulthood I was a storyteller and teacher of creative expression and have taught and performed in cities across the nation. After I got married and had my children I knew I wanted to stay home and raise them.  I spent many years as a stay at home mom working in tangent as my children grew. I became a preschool teacher to stay close to them in the toddler years and an artist in residence in public schools as they got older. When they were in middle school I also went back to school and graduated with honors from the University of Northern Colorado with a Masters in Community Counseling. I have taught at all grade levels from preschool to higher education.

My counseling career has mostly been through private practice. I am fortunate and extremely grateful to have a rich and diverse background. It has given me a unique perspective and an intuitive gift for being able to relate to people from all walks of life and assorted persuasions. When it comes down to it, we are all spiritual beings - no matter what our beliefs - striving for wholeness, love, and purpose. One of my favorite roles is running women’s groups and magical, nourishing, transcendent women’s retreats.

I worked throughout my cancer treatment, which proved to be an inspiring experience for both myself as well as my clients. Afterwards, I needed to take a break. My husband and I decided to separate. I closed my practice and took myself on a yearlong sabbatical of travel, adventure, and healing spending a winter in Israel and visiting Ghana among other places, but cutting my trip short when my mother was diagnosed with breast cancer. Luckily for us, I was in a position to stay for a few months and take care of her like she cared for me during my treatment.

When I returned to Boulder everything had changed. Or rather, I had profoundly changed and everything else had stayed the same. My kids were both living competent adult lives and I was unencumbered. This was such a rare and unique opportunity. I didn’t know when I would be this free again, so I decided to continue my journey.

I moved in with dear friends in Ann Arbor where I have always loved the surrounding woods and spring fed lakes. I spent a fall and winter there to see if I could still hack the cold and ultimately decided to move back and start a new life. I wasn’t yet sure where I wanted to go professionally. I spent an entire year cocooning in a little cottage on a little lake, healing and taking stock, praying for guidance, seeking purpose.

Finally, with wings still wet and not quite ready to fly, I slowly emerged from my chrysalis to face a new day, a new life, a new normal. I knew I wanted to continue working with people in an intimate way so decided to open my psychotherapy practice again, this time specializing in working with women. Then one glorious day, the clouds parted, the puzzle pieces came together and Women’s Cancer Coaching was born.
